The Capital District/Capital Region of New York is home to many wonderful golf courses and country clubs, offering opportunities for golfers of all skill levels to enjoy the game in a beautiful setting. Although a shorter season than many downstate golf courses, the Capital Region offers access to some of the most scenic and challenging golf courses and country clubs in the state.
Blessed with many older courses that were built during and even before the roaring twenties (1920's), while the area was experiencing an economic boom after World War One. Some of the most famous golf architects of the time including Donald Ross, Walter Travis, Devereux Emmet and Robert Trent Jones engaged in course design and development throughout the region and across New York State.
Greens fees at many of the public courses in the area are very reasonable and sometimes include cart fees. There are a fair number of local tournaments like the Tri-County Match Play, Troy Invitational, Schenectady Classic, Saratoga County Championship and more.

Country Club of Troy also known as Troy Country Club is a private country club located in Brunswick, New York just outside of Troy. The golf course was designed by the legendary Walter Travis and opened in 1927. The club itself dates back to 1925. It offers an 18-hole challenging golf course, with classic Travis greens and several holes with blind shots. The club hosts the Troy Invitation every year in June. The club also offers tennis courts, platform tennis, Olympic size pool, and dining facilities.
